A comfort lunch in the Finnieston : The Dirty Duchess

The spirit of the Finnieston

In the heart of the West-End, more precisely in Finnieston, just next to Kelvin Grove Park is the Dirty Duchess. Finnieston is a unique district of Glasgow with many cafés, bars, hairdressers and hipster barbers as well as antiques.

The Dirty Duchess Bar blends perfectly into this atmosphere.
Indeed, it was initially the offbeat appearance and what we saw behind the windows that pushed us to open the door of this brewery.

The decoration is amazing, very well crafted, mixing modern and antique. There is a friendly and comforting atmosphere (you can even feel like a duchess).

Say Cheeeese

Well, decoration is important, but let's move to the plate.

First of all, we were invited to test the cocktails that the bartender was developing, quite the welcome!
The menu is quite extensive; it is a great choice for a comforting lunch and also at a fair price. The dishes offered are well sized, they go so well with the Autumnal weather (don't come here to eat healthy, we don't care we're Dirty Duchesses).

One of the most popular traditional dishes in UK and offered in many pubs is Macaroni Cheese known as Mac’n’cheese. It’s macaroni pasta with cream and cheese, a lot of cheese. We took the bacon supplement and frankly what a treat! Sweet, creamy and  my stomach was full. The restaurant must have its secret recipe because it's not just cheesy pasta, it has something special. The dish is served with Garlic Bread; toasted bread served with garlic butter. It was good, in good quantity, but not the best in the city, nothing extraordinary. A little bonus for the fast service of dishes!

To sum up:

Affordable price! £7 for a Macaroni Cheese Garlic Bread.
Type of food: burger, shared plates, nachos, soup, fried chicken, macaroni cheese and local homemade food. Vegetarian options and quick service.

Certainly this restaurant is not one of the most luxurious in the city, but it is worth the detour for its offbeat decoration (Yes the spirit of Glasgow is there). If you want a comforting lunch while passing through Finnieston, go to the Dirty Duchesses (nothing beats a good macaroni cheese in a warm place when the rain or the wind is blowing outside).
